High Barns, Tollgate Close, Bromham, Bedford
Bromham is a village on the outskirts of Bedford...
Positioned on an elevated plot of approximately 0.3 acres, this traditional family home offers spacious four-bedroom accommodation, combined with beautiful gardens, two garages, a driveway for multiple vehicles, and an aspirational location.
Bromham is a village on the outskirts of Bedford with "all the facilities you need".
A world away from the bustling town centre, the parish is peaceful, rural, and perfect for families. The owner mentions many "pretty bits" of Bromham, including the River Great Ouse, as well as the surrounding countryside-ideal if you like walking. Commuting is easy from Bedford into London, and from Milton Keynes into Birmingham.
On the site of an old pig farm, the property itself dates from the 1910s, and the owner converted from a bungalow to a house in the 35 years he's lived here. Now providing exceptional and substantial living space, high ceilings, and a brilliantly bright and airy ambience throughout.
The lounge is great for cosy evenings, the sitting room benefits from copious sunshine through the French doors, and the country-style kitchen stays cool while cooking up a storm at the range oven. The owner enjoys following the sun around the house due to its many aspects bringing in natural light to all sides.
For colder periods, there's a wood and marble fireplace in the lounge, plus a sleek corner stove on a slate hearth in the sitting room.
A particular favourite spot of ours is the master bedroom, where the lounge area is prime for parking up with a book, and where the balcony affords a place to take in the stunning views over the garden. All four bedrooms are more than double-sized, and both the master and ground floor bedrooms have en suites. The master en suite has been recently refitted, comprising a gorgeous contemporary suite with bath, double walk-in shower, vanity sink and wc.
Storage is plentiful, with eaves storage to the landing, second bedroom and bathroom, built-in wardrobes and two extra cupboards in the master, two good-sized cupboards to the hallway, along with a loft. The utility allows for separation when the washing machine and tumble dryer are on, as well as somewhere to stow muddy boots after a dog walk.
Outside, there's so much to discover as you wander the grounds. From the block-paved frontage, a pathway meanders up past an established fig tree and bushy rosemary, past an ornamental pond with rockery, finishing at Mediterranean-inspired and well-screened terraces bounded by palm trees and grape vines.
The fireplace barbeque at the corner of the larger outdoor dining area is fantastic!
A side passageway brings you to a courtyard garden, where there's another secluded seating area accessed from French doors from the dining room.
Via gates to both sides, the main garden opens onto the full-width patio with steps down to the well-manicured lawn. Again enclosed and private, there are lots of features to appreciate, such as a tucked-away paved patch just the right size for a couple of chairs, a swing underneath the mature apple tree, and even a wood lawnmower port/garden store.
In addition to the extensive indoor space, a summerhouse in the garden enhances the overall accommodation. Built with exposed brick to one wall, windows to all other sides, and a pitched and glazed roof, there are many possibilities for this conservatory-style room.
Surrounded by charm, attention to detail, and potential still to realise, it's difficult to imagine wanting to live anywhere but here, in this wonderfully cared-for home, on this enormously outstanding plot.
